I grew up in a small town where dinner's at Nana's were common, where clergy member's joined you and your family for a meal, you brought a casserole to a new neighbour or left one on the steps of your neighbours home when a baby arrived.
I have discovered over the years that I love on people through food... in fact someone once prayed "God is good, God is great, thank you Lord for Christine and her delicious cake" (if you know me that explains my email address!).
Hosting is another joy I have. My mother was not much of a host... she likes to sit on her patio with a dog and a can of ginger ale in the evening.... alone. My Aunt on the other hand could easily be the master Hostess of all times. Her cupboards and fridge were always ready for a "drop in" guest, an extra bed was always waiting just in case and she was thrilled if you found a couch to snooze on after a good meal. Although we share NO genes I joke that I got the hospitality bone from her.
She taught me how to be a host, I have taken those skills with me to Europe, Alberta and home again. We usually feed someone once a week... sometimes that just means taking a loaf of bread over to a neighbours to add to their meal.
My napkins don't match... my dishes are a hodge podge of our own and one's from neighbours on our street who know we like to host potluck's etc and are conscious of our garbage limit. I may have to re boil my kettle twice before I actually get you a cup of tea... but it will happen!
On the third Friday of each month our home is open for neighbours near and in the hubs beside us to come break bread, bring a dish of their favorite food and just enjoy eachother's company. We are looking forward to BBQ's this summer and perhaps one or two kitchen parties ( I always wanted to be an easterner!).
Again, my napkins may be a hodge podge... my dishes definitely won't match and you may have to make your own tea or coffee but know you are welcome!
